Hecate or Hekate is a Goddess of the moon, of crossroads, boundaries, witchcraft and of the underworld. She is a mysterious and powerful Goddess of uncertain origins who also presides over entrance ways and ghosts. She has many faces and is often portrayed in later periods in triple form. In this painting she has with her a number of her symbols: hounds, twin torches, the moon, a key, string, a snake, a dagger, ravens and the aspendal plant. The creation of this painting involved much research and a number of meditation sessions interspersed with many hours of drawing and painting. Hecate is a favourite Goddess of many women involved in metaphysical pursuits, so she may well be yours.
