Being a nature lover which includes having an interest in all native animals and birds I felt a desire to paint this beautiful black Cockatoo when after I found one hiding in amongst the foliage of the Gum Tree in my local park. An unusual sighting as they tend to live in Central and Western Australia – not Queensland.
The red-tailed black cockatoos are true icons of Australia, they usually hide away high in the gum trees feeding on delicious gumnuts. Their cawing is loud and distinct, once heard you will never forget it. These birds tend to live by inland rivers and are less obvious than the pink galahs and white cookies which can be found throughout all states of Australia.
