Palazzo Loredan dell’ Ambasciatore derives its name from the Venetian-Ottoman wars of
Early 18th Century. After successful battles against the Supreme Porte, with Austria as a key ally, the palace was given over to the latter’s ambassadors for residence.
The Palazzo was built in the 16th century and was owned by the prominent Loredan family. It is in the Dosodoro, at the entrance of the Rio di San Trovasio into the Grand Canal. The palace displays a classic Venetian gothic design with a plethora of the distinctive ogee arch characters.
