Artist Biography

A keen artist from an early age, I went on to complete art training at Wigan College of art, England, followed by studies at Victoria University of Manchester graduating with qualifications in Education with a commendation in Art and Design.

After my arrival in Townsville, North Queensland, I spent a number of years as head of the art department at a private girls high school. My time in the tropics led me to explore the effect of brilliant sunlight on colour in local flora and fauna.

This fascination with ‘the play of light’, has been an enduring inspiration of almost scientific proportions on my development of technique in the use of watercolours in a non traditional way. I use neither white nor black paint in my watercolours in order to maintain the vibrancy and depth that I seek to be an integral part of my work. I include observational detail which, combined with all the other elements, speaks of truth and photorealism.

During this phase in my journey, I held numerous successful one man exhibitions in North Queensland and Darwin. Family commitments brought me to Brisbane in the late 90s and the serendipitous discovery of Samford Valley where I now paint in our ‘Rigmarole’ studio/Gallery.

After an overseas trip, which encompassed Italy, France, England and New York City, I have expanded my work and subjects to encompass oil painting and printmaking.

My work is represented in numerous private collections and business houses in Australia, U.K. , New Zealand, Japan, Korea, USA and Canada. A number of my paintings form part of the national collection by Art Bank.
