Over the years, I have found that drawing pictures in my spare time has been an excellent pressure release from the expectations and responsibilities placed upon me in my usual profession as a geologist. What started as nothing more than sketch-like images has now evolved into detailed illustrations as I experimented with different techniques to achieve different effects, pushing the limits of my abilities until I mastered them.
I began to consider composition; the arrangement of objects and context in which they were placed as well as the effect of light upon them. Each picture became a project in its own right, from the careful research conducted on the subject drawn to logging the time it took to complete a piece of work. In effect, I started to think as an artist and aimed to achieve their exceptionally high standards in what I did.
