Description
The chair and the copper pot are representative of the community of the Copper Coast where we lived when she was young and the bougainvillea and the foliage provide links to Maleny where she did senior school and worked before moving to Brisbane to study a Bachelor in Fine Arts, Drama at QUT.
Maleny is also the town which gave birth to A Girls Guide to World War, and similarly gave Minette an opportunity to start performing in a professional capacity with a beautiful supportive crew around her. Most recently the Matilda award winning show had a season at the Powerhouse in Brisbane and it will tour Queensland next year.
These communities have all applauded her early engagement in the performing arts and helped produce and sustain the beautiful actor she is today -indicated by the petals on the “stage” floor. A quiet and very supportive ovation.
Painted with some live sittings as per the requirements for some shows, and over a period of 2 months, this was my most ambitious work yet, and it was a challenge to paint.
A finalist in the prestigious Brisbane Portrait Prize in 2023 , it became fondly known whilst on display there, as “The Girl in the Red Dress”.
