With their vivid combinations of tough structures and delicate new growth, the spectacularly surprising native flowers of Australia never fail to astonish. Banksias, with their tough leaves and many-eyed seed pods contrasting against the fine filaments of unfolding blossom, are particularly entrancing. Painted using my trademark textured and transparent style, I love how many nooks and crannies there are for the eye to explore. A sense of movement inhabits this painting, the marks of my brushes and knives writ large across the linen canvas.
