I began to look at all the different cultures, over centuries, and realised that the turtle has a special meaning or symbolism to each and everyone.

This painting came about because I am quite fascinated with turtles, I would see them basking on the low tide near our shack, they seemed so spiritual and regal in their own way, and seeing their agility in the water, well, just incredible. I began to look at all the different cultures, over centuries, and realised that the turtle has a special meaning or symbolism to each and everyone.

Over a great period of time the turtle has always been rather mythical, and I wanted to capture and create a painting that encapsulated just some of the myths, symbols and imagery of my findings. The background is very textured with symbols from all over the world and the rest came from me, my interpretation.

The original is sold and is proudly part of a collection in the Central Queensland University.
