It’s only through patience and obligatory yet calming silence do they allow you to into their world. And when you do spot them: well, it’s mesmerizing.

This work was inspired by a friend of mine who is blessed to have them virtually in her ‘backyard’, merely meters from her front door at Brookfield. She is passionate about protecting these endangered creatures: platypus deserve our care and attention to protect them. She suggests we all try to do our bit: by limiting pollution of our waterways, outlawing ‘opera house’ fishing nets, keeping dogs on leash near waterways especially at dusk and dawn, and taking part in an annual platypus survey.

This work “Brookfield Local: Playful Platypus @ Dusk” celebrates these endangered creatures, and I hope will raise awareness of their need for protection.
