Bruno – Winner of Fellows Recognition Award

Bruno is a miniature schnauzer with attitude. After an afternoon of playing with Bruno, Trent and Rosie, I finally managed a series of photographs to work from that captured his cheeky personality.

The original was drawn with Caren D'Ache Luminance coloured pencils on 50x70cm Pastelmat Board, many hours were spent gently teasing out the form and texture of his amazing fur.  I have never used so many coloured pencils on one drawing as in this one, there are hidden purple and blue highlights, orange tints in amongst the greys of his body and cream/white of his magnificent hairy beard.

Winner of the Fellows Recognition Award in the 2023 RQAS Harold and Agnes Richardson Drawing Prize, the judges commented "the line work of the fur is beautiful, and has a very organic feel. Once curl flows into the next effortlessly. Very sensitive".
