Ca Foscari is an example of Venetian late gothic architecture, built on the site of the “House with two Towers”, the home of Francesco Sforza, who betrayed Venice. His house was demolished by order of Doge Francesco Foscari, prominent for the expansion of the Republic onto the mainland, partly in conjunction with his Captain-General, Bartolomeo Colleoni.
The palace, built from 1457, stands in Dosodoro, at the entrance of the eponymous river into the Grand Canal. The Palazzo is the home of the University of Venice.
