I used my imagination to compose this painting from a variety of images. I enjoy looking closely within a garden to see the inherent beauty within a small section. I, as a child, would often go exploring in the countryside and loved coming across streams and forest areas that looked as if no one else had ever seen them before. They were untouched. Secret beautiful worlds that exist but which are often missed to our eye.

I try to capture these places. I also like to make the audience look even more closely to see there is often still more to see if one only takes the time to look. In this painting it is the chrysalis and butterfly hiding in the right foreground. I also use light to subtly bring these hidden subjects within the painting to the viewer’s attention.

The original of this painting is in acrylic and also I have used modelling compound and gold leaf to build up the foreground as I like to create the effect of a three dimensional world coming out from the canvas. One that the viewer can actually feel like they can touch. I want the viewer to feel the joy and excitement of seeing a beautiful world that they are the only one privileged to see.
