‘Hibiscus Break’ a work from Susan’s ‘Seaburbia’ series explores the cultural memory and heritage of the quintessential Australian beach house. Often overlooking surf breaks, these beach houses were visited on weekends and holidays. With activities focused on the beach and not the yard native vegetation was often retained, like the native Hibiscus or ‘Cotton Tree’.
