Jazz dancers from Shilleena's Dance Academy pose for this scene which I used as reference for this painting (part of my exhibition at Tiny Tree Cafe in 2020). I made use of the dark expressive nature of charcoal contrasting against the streaming light to capture the atmosphere in the studio and soulful moodiness that I associate with jazz.
