Jacarandas are absolutely one of my very favourite things. Being a girl from Grafton, it does make sense, but this painting has layers of jacaranda goodness.
To begin, I started with a layer of my very own fabric of jacaranda leaves design, which I designed for Kennard and Kennard, an Australian fabric manufacturer. That's those tiny, teeny leaves you can barely see in the corners.
That fabric was designed using the painted jacaranda leaves from a previous painting! Then, I painted again, using the same techniques as in the original work to create a brand new painting, where all those thousands of leaves in the background work to give us a lovely sense of immense depth – a birdseye view as my favourite November flowers reach for the skies.
