Late afternoon tea

We’re sitting in the backyard on a blanket having a late afternoon tea. I can’t eat too much otherwise I’ll spoil my dinner, so plums will have to do. Mid-summer black plums are the best – sweet yet slightly tart. In the enamel teapot, Melbourne Breakfast Tea.

The whole vignette, backlit, with small insects buzzing around in the shadows and the smell of petrichor and freshly cut grass. The temperature drops slightly and there are a few raindrops; the wind picks up. We grab blanket, teapot and cups and run inside. It’s South East Queensland, summer of ‘23 so it’s a deluge.
