LBJ, that stands for Little Brown Job for you non birders. It is actually a little Tasmanian thornbill; they are only about 10cm long (if you stretch him out from beak to tail). Often you only get a quick glimpse of these smaller brown birds as they flit through the bush, certainly not enough to identify them. Hence the popular birding term LBJ or little brown job. In this case, I was very privileged to get a really good look at this Tasmanian thornbill (who is endemic to Tassie). He was quite friendly, rather inquisitive really. This gave me an opportunity to see the beauty and detail of this little bird (that is often missed) and, in particular, that stunning red eye. In this painting I share this special insight to this engaging little bird.
