Limousin Summer Series To visit Limousin in south-central France is to step back in time. It is an area of ancient stone farmhouses and meandering lanes taking you past fields of lush green pastures. It is slowing down to a quieter pace, an area where traffic jams are caused by the wonderful, cream coloured Charolais cattle as they are herded through the hamlet.
The excitement as an international velo (bicycle) race comes through- there and gone in moments but enough to bring the residents out to cheer the riders on. And everywhere flowers growing over fences, overgrown blackberries bushes offering up their fruit and, of course, the hydrangeas- So many varieties with multicoloured flower heads weighing down the branches.
The Limousin series of hydrangea paintings is a small snapshot of the variety found in the area. I can give you these to look at. You have to imagine the feel of the sun, the smells of cut grass and the quiet as you stroll along the laneways for yourself.
