Description

Open Edition Reproduction

Martinborough, the town of wine. I was born and bred in Martinborough, then, population of 1000, a sheep and cattle farmer’s service town in the south of the North Island of NZ. Today it is a thriving boutique wine growing area with a population of nearly 2000. John Martin, the founder, designed the town on the basis of the Union Jack.

Within walking distance of town there are vineyards, wineries, sawmills and sheep, cattle and dairy farms. Nature still offers all her bounties, there is plenty at her doorstep. “Martinborough” goes through its four seasons with the town square as the centre and I have encased it with the beautiful red wine they make and congratulated them with a band of gold representing all their gold medals they have justly won.
