I discovered a landscape image. It was a terrestrial scene with intertwined trees and I realised that, if I made various changes, it could easily masquerade as an aquatic landscape. So, that’s what I set out to paint.

Then I went fishing, for fish!

The ones in this work are all individually created, patterned and orchestrated to be just like koi carp in the real world.

But in essence it’s a pretence, an illusion, a completely ‘made-up’ work where nothing is quite what it seems.

Hence the title “Masquerade". Where the truth is simply a lie in disguise!
