Australian Native Flowers. On our last holiday to Sydney, Jeff and I stayed at Q-Station at Manly for a couple of nights. We were both captivated by the variety and beauty of all the wild flowers that we encountered on our walks between North Head and Shelly Beach. Instead of quick walks trying to cover as much ground as possible in the shortest time, we found ourselves lost in the details, photographing around five different varieties of each native wild flower.
When we returned to Brisbane, I struggled to compose the painting I had in my mind. A walk around the block yielded some fresh samples covertly obtained from the neighbours and this wild, loose arrangement was born.
I enjoyed playing around with the focal length and made only parts of the painting in focus, so you can see exactly what I was seeing as I looked down on the flowers.
Featured are: Grevillea Banksii (Red Silky Oak), Acacia (QLD Silver Wattle), Corymbia Ficifolia (White Flowering Gum) – please feel free to email and enlighten me if my plant identification is erroneous!
