Otway Splendour

In this pastel painting I wanted to capture the absolute splendour of the Great Otway National Park. To do this I needed to include the magnificent tree ferns which grow in abundance and of course the tall gum trees as they reach up to the sky from the rainforest floor.

Of course the filtered light was most important as it breaks through the high canopy and shines down to give highlights to the thick and sometimes tangled foliage plants below. This pastel painting received second place in the 2016 Pastel Society of Australia, General Members Online Competition.
