Description

Open Edition Reproduction

Although the telephone is “clunky” by today’s standards, it is a very beautiful piece in its own right. Here the phone is just used as a phone and is a secondary element in the girls interaction with each other.

A comment is made by the artist on how the contemporary mobile phone, although convenient and multifunctional, often results in people disengaging from each other as well as their physical surroundings. On a lighter note, there is an element of playfulness and mystery about this artwork and it also plays tribute to the glamour and stylishness of the fashion of the day. Dancers from Shilleena’s Dance Academy modelled for this pose used in the finished painting.
