Description
Limited Edition Reproduction of 100 Only
Land connections between Africa and South America, such as the region above the Plume, now known as the Walvis Ridge and Rio Grand Rise were severed around 113 million years ago. A narrow, newly created sea floor (purple) grew from a newly active spreading centres (red, orange and yellow). The open sea was now allowed to circulate from south to north. The “Rifts” and “Salt” provided a platform on either side of the new ocean for marine limestones to grow. Calcareous pellets, lime grains and fossils were in abundance and cemented together to form this limestone (pale blues and aquamarines together with some golden yellow).
