Description

Open Edition Reproduction

Early history in Australia and NZ. In 1860, sixty years before Australia and New Zealand Armed Forces were thrown into a battle that would bond them together forever through the creation of the respected designation,

The Anzacs. In 1860 New Zealand was in the middle of the Maori Wars whilst Australia pioneers were penetrating the western outback hoping to discover land for agriculture. At that time the hardship carried on in both countries to make a better life for its people did come with some basic comforts. This painting illustrates them, the Maori sleeping mat and the Australian stockman’s saddle. They are connected with the National Flowers, NZ’s Kowhai and the Australia’s Wattle.
