For a short while in 2016 and 2017 I completed many paintings such as this. My "dark paintings". I don’t paint these anymore, but I have many from that time. They are old and small and covered in dust. Here I have repainted one of those old paintings. It’s larger and done a bit cleaner.
To create such paintings I would coat a primed panel with paint thinned with linseed oil. The surface would remain wet for some hours before starting to go tacky. In this time I would print a variety of splotches on the surface with a scrunched napkin and look into it to see what I could see. Objects that I saw were then sharpened with some more deliberate alterations with a brush or napkin and a whole image expanded out from there. Many of these paintings had a deep sea feel to them.
Chaotic rock like formations hanging in a dark void and some various creatures lurking about.
