Caloundra, a resort on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, provided the waves and the rocks. The weathered trees live on Red Beach, Bribie Island, not far from my studio. The comic-strip pictorial with sailors and costumed characters is a homage to noted American cartoonist and animator Windsor McCay and ‘Little Nemo’ which was published in the U.S. in the early half of the 20th Century.

The caption is mine. The yellow duck is from the ensuite shower at home. The blue-green pebble strip are stones from the garden, as are the flowers. And ‘The Girls’, well they’re both plastic figurines, circa 1950’s American advertising. I got to do their hair, make-up and wardrobe every day before I started painting. No, not really, they did it themselves.
